Please make sure to sign up for parent teacher interview so that we can review your child's Early Years Evaluation results. To access the online booking system follow these instructions.
There will be no school on these days.
It has been such a great beginning and we have enjoyed meeting your children as well as all of your families. We hope everyone is felling like they had a successful 1st week in kindergarten! I know some students have already caught the back to school bug. Please, if your child is not feeling well and especially lethargic DO NOT bring them to school and share that with the rest of us.
Here are some reminders for the final weeks of September:
Nov. 29 The morning classes will be joining the rest of the school to enjoy the University of Lethbridge Theater group presentation.
December 1 - the last day of skating. Wow! The students have improved so much since the first skating session....it is amazing how they can pick things up. (Morning: 9:30-10:30; Afternoon: 1:00-2:00) See you at Nicholas Sheran rink!
December 6 - We have a presentation about Germs and Handwashing. This will be valuable, given flu season has arrived.
December 8 - Christmas Gala (check the school website for more information) This is an evening event. http://mmh.lethsd.ab.ca/
December 19-22 - During this last week of school before Christmas, we will have Christmas Caroling in the gym with the entire school, gingerbread cookie decorating (please watch for a sign up of items we may need), and our Christmas Party on December 22 (please check special person calendar to see if you signed up to bring party snacks; our party days do not require parent volunteers, so you do not need to stay if you are bringing snack.)
I can not believe it is already November. This year is flying by!! This coming up week is another three day week. The students have no school on Thursday, Nov. 10, as the teachers have a district professional learning day. There will be a Remembrance Day Assembly the morning group will be attending on Wednesday, November 9 with the rest of the school.
Dates and information to know for the month are:
November 10 - No School - PD day
November 17 - SKATING (morning 9:30-10:30; afternoon 1:00-2:00)
November 23 and 24 - No School - Parent Teacher Interviews for Kindergarten (see school website for information on how to sign up.)
December 1 - LAST SKATING DAY (morning 9:30-10:30; afternoon 1:00-2:00)
Just a reminder that tomorrow is our Halloween Party. Please check the special person calendar to see if you signed up to bring our party snack. (Do not send individual snacks with your child on this day...there is always plenty to choose from our large group snack. Those who signed up, are not expected to stay. We set our party days up without the need of an extra adult helper. If, however, you were hoping to stay, we never turn you away! Our door is always open. The morning group will be doing a parade through the classrooms around 9:00. The afternoon group will join the entire school for their parade which will take place in the hallways around the gym, and through the gym, starting at 12:45. Please bring your child already in their costume. We do not have lots of extra time in our day to be helping the kids get into costume. We look forward to seeing all the costumes tomorrow!
Picture Retakes will be happening on Monday October 17 - please let your teacher know if your child needs these. Often the kids believe they do, but they don't. Please talk directly to your teacher.
Hello Parents! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! We have not received all of our skating forms back. Please touch base with your child's teacher tomorrow, Wednesday, to make sure we know who or if an adult is attending on Thursday. We have a few extra pair of skates, but not enough for everyone. If your child is needing to borrow skates, please have this discussion with your teacher tomorrow to give us time to fit the children for skates. If you feel like you have mentioned it in passing, please touch base again, as we often have many passing conversations amongst our 42 families and it is quite easy to forget. An email works too, but remember we do not often get time in our day to check our emails, as we are in front of the kids almost the entire day.
Thanks again! We know this takes some effort on the part of the families to attend and organize. The benefit and growth your children get from this time is quite remarkable. Your efforts are much appreciated!
By now I’m sure you have noticed your child’s ‘Sound Pack’ in his/her backpack. We will continue to add sounds (about 3 per week) to this pack. For this reason, it is important to store the Sound Pack (the baggie that has the little colouring sheets) in your child’s backpack. Feel free to take it out to practice the sounds and make words as often as you like. Your child has been told that this pack ‘lives’ in their backpack. Please help them develop responsibility in this area.
Kindergarten skating is October 13 and 27, November 17, and December 1. On each of these days we will be taking a trip to Nicholas Sheran arena to skate together! Parent/adult helpers will meet students at the rink. It will be a huge help if parents could bring their child’s skates and supplies to the rink rather than children bringing them to the school.
We plan to be gone from school from: (approximately)
MORNING CLASS 9:30am-10:30am AFTERNOON CLASS 1:00pm-2:00pm
Siblings are welcome as long as they are fully supervised and have SKATING helmets.
Each child needs to bring their own pair of skates. NO CHILD (including siblings) WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE ICE WITHOUT A PROPER SKATING (HOCKEY) HELMET. If your child does not have a helmet, the school does own some that can be borrowed. If you are unable to get skates for your child, please let me know ASAP.
