Handwriting Without Tears

If you are wanting to practice some printing with your children at home here is a great template as to what we use to teach the proper letter and number formation. This is from the Handwriting Without Tears website, which is one of the programs we are using to help teach proper printing formation. There is also a great Handwriting Without Tears chart that demonstrates the letter formation and has your child repeat it.

Goop Recipe

Materials:
  • 1 ½ cups of cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • Green liquid food coloring (optional)
  • Spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Large bowl
  • Airtight container

* The cornstarch: water ratio is about 2:1.
 
Instructions:
  • Mix cornstarch, water, and food coloring together
  • Add more water if the mixture seems too dry and more cornstarch if it seems too wet
  • Explore and play with the goop!
Cooked Playdough Recipe 

Materials: 
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 pkg unsweetened kool-aid​
Directions:
  • Combine dry ingredients 
  • Combine wet ingredients
  • Slowly mix wet to dry
  • When smooth, cook over medium heat until a ball forms
  • Remove from heat and knead until smooth
